Knee – Replacement/Unicompartmental/Partial/Revision Arthroplasty/Osteoarthritis/Degenerative Joint Disease.
The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body and is most easily injured. It is made up of four major things: bones, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. Your knee if a complex joint with many components, making it vulnerable to a variety of injuries. Many knee injuries can be successfully treated with simple measures, such as bracing and rehabilitation exercises. Other injuries may require surgery to correct. The most common knee injuries include fractures around the knee, dislocation, and sprains and tears of soft tissues. Pain and swelling are the most common signs of knee injury.

HCA Virginia’s Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals have partnered with Own the Bone to create the only program in Central Virginia dedicated to increasing the quality of life for patients currently suffering from or at risk for osteoporosis. We are dedicated to educating you on bone health topics; recommending and initiating bone mineral density testing; discussing treatment options; and ensuring your orthopedic doctor and primary care physician work together to give you the best treatment possible.

Bone density screening, also called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) or bone densitometry, is an enhanced X-ray that measures bone loss. DEXA is non-invasive and is used to diagnose osteoporosis or assess your risk for developing fractures.

Spine surgery may be necessary to correct spine problems that involve nerves, discs, or bones. Neurological or orthopedic conditions can cause pain, limited motion, or weakness. Spine surgery may be suggested if nonsurgical care has not helped. HCA Virginia has neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons who are spine specialists. They perform specialized spine surgeries and procedures, including pediatric spine surgery, spinal fusion, microdiscectomy, artificial cervical disc, spinal surgery, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty and digital biplane angiography.
